Brasil
Alto tiempo...
I´m sorry for the time delay. Life here is good. I arrived in Brasil the 15th (yess...i will fill u in on other stuff before then..but first things first). The weather wasn´t the greatest, a bit clouded over and such. We made jokes about having to go to the tanning beds to get our tans for when we go back. (Don´t worry tho..it was all just jokes..) The next day tho, we were greeted by the amazing sunshine and heat. We are staying at some relatives. The neighbourhood is out of town, therefore it isn´t easy to go out. It is absolutely gorgeous tho!!! I have gone to run around the lake every day so far (minus the first). The fruit is also delicious (I didn´t like mango in canada, and love it here!) There are also bananas that have a bit of apple flavor. This morning, i ate a banana that was grown in the backyard for "breakfast" when I woke up at about 2. We hadn´t arrived at the house til 7 15...so I slept like a baby. Rice is a staple at mealtimes here, i have a feeling i wont want to eat rice when i get back to chile for awhile..but for now, i´m happy with it.
Before we came to Brasil, we spent a week in Santiago. I had to get a visa to enter. It was nice to meet some of my host dad´s family, and we shared lots of laughs at my aunt´s house. I wasn´t allowed to go out alone much, although our last day I went to visit Manuel. I took the metro, and then had to take a bus. I went out the wrong exit of the metro tho, i wasn´t far at all from where i needed to be...but there was a lot of cellphone talking to figure out where i was and where I had to go. I arrived, safe and sound. I went to go for a run one morning, and was told to run to the metro station and back, not to veer from the path. It was interesting.....Lots of good fruit there as well. We went to the market one day and bought 50 cobs of corn for under 4 bucks. (Mind you, there isn´t quality control...so there were some skechy parts as we were cleaning them later..but i didn´t get sick or nething..so all is good!) I had never tried humeitas before, a traditional dish. It is made of corn (hence the 50 cobs..), and since fresh corn doesnt really arrive in punta arenas, my host mom doesn´t know how to make it. I helped make them..(have pics to prove it).
The pre-leaving Punta Arenas was full of trying to meet up with different friends, saying bye for the summer. Its weird to be here, so far from both of my groups of friends, and missing both of them lots. I can understand a bit of Portuguese, hope to learn more.
There is a trip to the south of chile at the end of february.....and i really wish i was able to go ,but i´m pretty sure my brasil flight is unchangeable...It would be fun to chill with the other exchangers on another crazy bus trip!
I just realized that the date has changed.....and that it is therefore the 19th of january, which makes it 5 months that I have been in chile!!! (and brasil.....)
Time flies.....
especially since I´ve been looking at my dates for coming home....craziness
chau
